Adobe Wins $2.8M in Macromedia Lawsuit

As reported by MacNN (http://www.macnn.com/news.php?id=14014):

"The U.S. District Court of Delaware found Macromedia responsible for willful infringement of Adobe patents, namely those that cover Adobe's configurable 'tabbed' palette design used across the Adobe line of software."

I had a feeling they would win... I'm kinda glad too, maybe this will prompt Macromedia to find a better way to organize their unbelievable number of palettes. ;)

I am so tired of hearing about lawsuits in this country....everyone wants to sue everyone...

Using palettes for an interace is just a really good idea. So adobe came up with it (or at least, they patented it). Macromedia using it isn't going to harm sales of photoshop!

Its quite amazing this managed to happen. What does suck is that MM now has to pay out the money - then we're all losers. Because this will cause the stock to drop and maybe make things a little unstable for MM. I hope the money issue isn't going to cause them problems, life without Flash, Director, etc. would be painful.

Yes, and I wonder what'll happen if/when the court issues an injunction. Would Macromedia have to immediately pull their offending products off the market? That could be very bad... :eek:

2.8 million can't be that much for Adobe.

They probably use that much for office supplies. :D

Macromedia won't have to pull their products off the shelf. If you noticed they redesigned the pallets in Flash MX, Dreamweaver MX, and so on. The only program that still has the adobe type interface is Freehand. Now Corel should sue Adobe for taking ideas from photopaint and adding them to photoshop 6.
Anyways adobe is just mad they lost the internet to macromedia.
