I have installed X11 and downloaded the file: ooo103darwing.dmg.gz for some reason not having much luck installing the file. Not sure what to do.

Using Powerbook and OS X

double click it.

it's a pretty straight forward install, so i'm assuming the problem is due to some other factors. some details of what the problem is would help in a diagnosis.

I think part of the problem is corrupted or incomplete downloads. Where do you get yours, what server?

i'm not sure which server i used, but i believe it was one of the US ones. when you double-click the file, it should open up in stuffit expander, are you getting errors when it's decompressing? if so, you should probably try a different mirror.

The problem is I am not sure if the whole file is here. The file I download is ooo103darwingm.dmg.gz 169.5MB. Have tried other sites and got worse results incomplete downloads. I click on the folder, Stuffit starts, runs for a while looking normal then gives message: An error occurred while expanding the file “ooo103darwingm.dmg.gz” (Archive was compressed with an unknown compression method). Error #17535. Guess I’ll keep trying different servers.

Definitely sounds like a corrupted file. If you can't get a full download at any mirrors I can send you my installer.

Good luck!
