I was wondering if there'd be a section added for the radio stations...
obviously you don't buy those, but this site doesn't exist just to drive Apple sales... does it? :)

The Green Lounge under the ecclectic category is a great place to listen to swank lounge music -- everything from Sinatra to Les Baxter can be heard there.

I'll check that out right now, thanks.

I'm a huge fan of lounge music and I loved the old internet station http://www.luxuriamusic.com. They used to have a live DJ with a webcam, so you could chat with them during the show and request songs. It probably cost them too much $, but I just checked out their site and they are still around. I don't know how good it is anymore, they were inactive for a long time and the new site design is not as cool as the old site. But if the music is as great as I remember it, I start listening again.
Best of all, they have an iTunes stream.

Does anyone know how to add stations to the Radio section of iTunes ?

Do the included stations have a contract with Apple, since they are bundled with iTunes ? I had to make a playlist with other radio streams.

LuxuriaMusic is great! The best part is they actually have the artists' names in the info window with the broadcast! Really exotic stuff! Love it! Thanks again! :D

We are working with iTunes to add LuxuriaMusic as an iTunes station.

Live DJs and the webcam coming soon and a groovier site design is in the works.

Most importantly, a music mix you will not hear anywhere else.

We have an interview coming up with Vic Mizzy (the composer of the Addams Family and Green Acres themes) and Easitaly!, Italian easy listening, new lounge and new jazz.

ENJOY!

KEXP.org is pretty damn good, I listen to it all the time over here in the UK, even though it's a Seattle based public radio station. They do have a lot of good music on, stuff that I'd consider more 'serious' music than you might hear on other stations....

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to listen to the BBC stations through i-tunes? Radio 1 access would be great. Cheers, L.

No iTunes yet with BBC.

That's one place where iTunes is lacking, the radio stations are still few and many of them are not very good.

Not (entierly) in itunes, but kexp.org is the best radio station, internet or otherwise, that has ever existed. Check it out.

Now, I seriously want itunes to be able to read WMA and Real feeds, and then you click on the song, and it doesn't matter who's providing, it tells you the song name, all the info, including label, and/or takes you to itunes music store to buy the song. If real can hack fairplay, apple could do this... and then lisence fairplay, and really come out on top. Integrate with wifi ipod, so you can get any radiostation broadcast to your ipod where there is wifi, and purchase songs from itms, or just line them up for purchase once you connect to your computer.... wow. That would be awesome.

Sorry, I just can't give up on my beloved Radio 1. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1) I pray for the day when they ditch that joke of a travesty of a crap company - Real, and finally allow their shows to be streamed using iTunes. A glorious day it will be! Sadly according to their FAQ Help section, no plans as yet... :(

I've been looking for a thread like this forever! I shoulda just started on myself!
KEXP is great most of the time.
Indie Pop Rocks as mentioned I think is part of SomaFM.com who has streams for many types of music, most of them quite enjoyable, like the spy music one too.
There's also WFMU (http://wfmu.org/wfmu.pls) in New York/New Jersey (128 K stereo MP3 stream!)
and from the Bay Area, CA:
KZSU ( http://kzsulive.stanford.edu/audio/kzsu-1-128.m3u)
KUSF (http://kusf.org/index.shtml)
KFJC (http://netcast.kfjc.org:8976/listen.pls)
KALX (http://kalx.berkeley.edu/ only in real :( )
Radio K in Minneapolis (http://radiok.cce.umn.edu/radiok/)
I think I have some more at home

Can you tell I used to be a college radio DJ? ;)

The "Radio" in iTunes is handled by Apple. You can't add radio stations to that icon's list. However, it looks like you are adding radio stations the correct way. You create a Playlist, label it something like "Radio", and add any or all radio stations to it from Apple's Radio icon, AND add any you find on the net using, Menu Bar > Advanced > Open Stream. Once you open the stream, you would be able to drag it from your Library to your new Radio. Incidentally, when you're on Apple's "Radio" you can use the "Refresh" button to check for updated radio stations that the company has added/subtracted.

I like British sounds too but find Virgin Radio too pop oriented and the constantly repeating commercials annoying.
Cable Radio UK (in the International section of iTunes Radio) is a little better.
They're also at skywaveradio.com

Hello!

Does anyone know if there are stations somewhere playing traditional Arabic songs, or Qur'anic recitation?

All such stations I have discovered have either are seemingly abandoned, play hideous Arabic pop music, or broadcast in a format unfriendly to iTunes. Probably this is just the state of things, but maybe someone here knows differently.

Thanks and Eid Mubarak if you celebrate!

I find the iTunes program's support for radio very disappointing. Most radio stations, and all that I want to listen to, are not listed. Many of them support Real or Windows but not even MP3. Those that do support MP3 (VPR _finally!_) don't work all that well.

One I like from the iTunes list is DI.fm Chillout from the Ambient section.

Another I'd recommend is Groove Radio (http://www.grooveradio.com) which despite the appalling bitrate (16kbps) is a good listen.

I've found a ton of new artists whose work I like (Laurel, Sounds From The Ground, Boards Of Canada, Sasha, to name a few) and my CD collection is growing at about 2 CDs per month now.

Alaska's Secular Apologetic Talk, Comedy, and Music! (http://rogueamoeba.net/streams/info.cgi?uid=http://69.178.54.189:8000/playlist.pls)

Streaming 24 hours a day at 40kbps stereo. Many genres of music from locations around the world, past and present. Comedy from Bill Hicks and Stephyn Lynch. Talk from Tom Leykis, The infidel Guy, Change Surfer Radio, and Murphy's Law. Have fun, it's commercial free and I pay my own bandwidth. No begging for donations. ;)

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Radio Margaritaville (http://www.radiomargaritaville.com).

It's in iTunes, under /Radio/Americana, if I recall.

Every Jimmy Buffett concert in live 64k, inter alia including Beatles, Grateful Dead, and whatnot.

There needs to be some sort of system that takes the top few from shoutcast.com from each genre and puts them into iTunes..
I'm sure it could be done with a simple bit of xml parsing (EH APPLE!? EH!?!?)..
