Minimizing when in a full screen application?

When playing a game thats full screen is it possible to minimize the game so that I can go to the desktop? In windows all I had to do was alt-tab or hit window-d. Cmd-tab doesnt work in osx... any suggestions?

Command + H to hide the screen?

I really think that it depends on the game. Sometimes Cmd-Tab does work to switch applications while in a game. CMD+Return(Enter) sometimes works if the game supports a windowed environment.

hmm it works on some games but not on others... weird.

It's this way in Windows, too. Many games in Windows Alt + Tab worked to get me to another application, and many times it wouldn't. Depends on the game.

I just ran a "game" (wheel of furtune) and CMD+TAB and CMD+RETURN did not work but CMD+H (as Masizzle mentioned) did.
