will more ram help? (Fusion)

Hello,

I'm trying to run Vista 64-bit, through Fusion, on a Mac Pro 2.8 Octo with the factory 2gb of ram and it's horribly slow. I have 1gb allocated to the VM and 1gb for OSX and, without running any other programs, I'm essentially left with about 100kb of ram. Many of my cpu's also show >70% usage.

I'm ready to buy some more ram, but I'm wondering about how much I really need to get everything to run smoothly. I am on somewhat of a budget so I can't exactly max out.
My intention is to be able to use Autocad (no major 3d work, but some of the files can get large).

Yes.

The smart buy for a MacPro is a 4 GB kit ( 2 x 2 GB FB-DIMMs)

Buy from a reputable Mac-aware dealer.

1. Yes, 1GB for Vista is sub-optimal normally, much less for a big application.
2. 1GB ain't so great for OS X either.
3. Vista 32-bit will run a bit faster, and really with no real downside since you're not even close to the 3GB/4GB RAM limits of Vista 32-bit.
