Would removing and leaving off a new Mini's top case (forget difficulty safety warranty & cosmic issues) cause it to run cooler or play havoc with the designed air flow

Umm, why? Something wrong with the Mini that makes you think its overheating? You won't gain any performance from cooling it down.

Good question ! I live in Houston, Tx (no shortage of heat & humidity) and try not to use my A/C much - want the Mini to run as cool as possible

I think some things are designed for a reason. I believe the cover actually forces air across components, cooling them before exhausting. (and duh, keeping crap from falling into the computer and shorting things out).

I had a 69 VW bug once (actually 6) and took off all of the aluminum that surrounded the motor so it would look cool and (I thought) it would run cooler. It overheated almost immediately. The aluminum I removed, forces air around the motor cooling it via an internal fan. Of course this has nothing to do with a computer, but I had to share my "removing stuff" overheat story.

I kinda figured it would be hard to improve on Apple's design (okay I misspelled cosmetic please don't sic the internet police on me)

Sorry. I don't usually pull people up on it but I just really liked the idea of 'cosmic issues'.
