When I connect my iPod to my non-iTunes computer just for charging purposes, the iPod does not go into sync mode, it stays in the exact same mode and exact same place in whatever playlist it was in when I connected it. So when I disconnect the iPod and hit play the songs continue from where ever I stopped listening earlier. However, when I connect my iPod to my iTunes computer and then disconnect it, it doesn't remember anything about what I was listening to before, it just start playing songs in alphabetical order from the artist list!

When I disconnect my iPod and hit play to intuitively continue in shuffle mode that I was in when I connected it (I'm almost always in shuffle mode), but then it starts playing the same friggen first song in my artist list again and again! I can't tell you how many times I've heard the first 5 seconds of A.C. Newman's song Miracle drug!

I was in shuffle mode when I hit stop and connected it, so it shouldn't be in a different mode when I hit play later!

Is there anyway to make my iPod have the play button default to shuffle mode instead of artist list playback mode?

(I know that asking for it to even remember which song I was listening to and at what elapsed time would be a pipe dream, although it really really shouldn't be that crazy of a hope. It's shameful that for such a high piece of technology and from a company that prides itself on user friendliness and ease of use, that it doesn't even remember what song MODE you were in when you last used it, let alone remembering the actual song.

It's not the end of the world, I still think my classic was a great purchase, but this is one of those big usage annoyances that significantly detract from how fun it is to use this entertainment product, and it really shouldn't exist. Even if it's possible to change this behavior, it really should be the default.)
