The phone I received was in perfect condition. If the warranty didn't expire in August, I wouldn't think anyone even activated it. No dents, scratches, blemishes, etc.

I am worried that my iPhone is going to come scratched and/or messed up.

How many of you have had problems with your phones?

When I bought the phone I was under the impression that it was treated similar to an Apple refurb, but apparently I was wrong. My iPhone should get delivered anytime now (yea!) but I really hope that it comes in great/perfect condition, and that there are no problems so I can unlock and have some fun tonight.

Just got mine. It's in perfect condition. According to apple's web site, the warranty is good until July 30, 08, so it's an early one. I'll do that fax thing to update my purchase in the morning.

i clicked on the link on the first page and it just went to some blank page on the AT&T site. i searched 'refurbished iPhones' on the site and it brought up no matching results for what i was looking for. I tried to register to the AT&T site with my home phone, which is AT&T, and it said that our number wasn't registered. someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? i want a $250 iPhone!

Received mine earlier today. It is in perfect condition, although the firmware is 1.0.2. I went to Settings>Usage and the usage only said about 10 min total when I got it. Must have been a quick return for the previous owner. No scratches at all. Does get a little warm though, will have to monitor it. Warranty ends on July 20, 2008. So someone must have registered it. Already sent in proof of purchase to get it changed. Will see what happens. Good luck to the rest of you.

wow...

just received mine. def NOT mint condition. not acceptable, not even a little. first of all i was disappointed to see that its not in its original packaging, and then i open it to find MULTIPLE scratches and a DENT on the back! i'm going to try to take it to the apple store today - hopefully i dont have to end up sending it back in.

Thank you Apple!!

I went to my local apple store, told them ATT's customer service was **** and that they told me to contact apple, so they replaced it with a (mint) in-store refurb within 5 minutes.

oh and my 2nd refurb came, THIS one was in good condition.

2nd. my headphones do look used tho on the white part. phone came activated with 1.0.2. used ziphone to activate/unlock/jailbreak on 1.1.4.
safari, youtube, etc all work like my last ATT activated iphone. after a quick reboot installer worked fine.
now if i could only find this background on there!

Well, it is here, and it is beautiful!

It is working great and looks in perfect condition. I don't know if they reset the usage stats, but my says that there is 0 minutes usage in its lifetime.

I am very happy, and now I am off to restore and unlock. WOOT!

i'm looking into buying a refurbished iphone and there are a lot on ebay (some for ~$300 which aint bad).

all of them are stating that they are "brand new" (in other words not used) except for unlocking the phone for the winning bidder. is this shady? do i need to be careful with these auctions? dont want to get scammed or screwed over....

It should be taken off as soon as he returns the other phone, they have to have some incentive to send the phone back ;)

I never thought of that. My husband says I am too trusting... oh well at least I am happy. :D

Can anyone tell me how to check the week info for my iphone? thx

See this guide (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=457556)...

Each iPhone has a serial number detailing the year it was made and the week. The Year is found in the 3rd digit of the serial number while the week number is found by the 4th and 5th digits.

Example:

7t728xxxx > This means this iPhone is from Year 2007 and week 28.
GH810xxxx > This means this iPhone is from Year 2008 and week 10.

Mine arrived while I was in Jax today... which means I can get it from the office manager tomorrow. :)

I just got the iPhone today and it is in perfect condition with all accessories. When I checked on Apple's website for the warranty, it stated that the phone has never been activated. Unfortunately, I cannot activate the phone as it is a gift. :(

Well, I should be able to get the nitty gritty details on it once we get it activated.

This was an awesome deal, and hope that they do it again soon, so I can get another one when the 2.0 firmware is released.

Someone in this forum listed a link to where you can get the full warranty by sending in a proof of purchase (well, receipt) and some other stuff. That's what makes Apple's refurb program quite unbeatable.

okay, so I found this six days late, but will they be offering more when/if they become available ? I bought a 16gb iPod Touch in November and I realize it's probably not worth the original $400, but if I advertise accessories and a warranty on eBay, I could easily get that or more. I want to sell it to get an iPhone and use the leftover money for service, but I wont make any profit unless I can get the refurb model. so, will they offer more for us tardy to find out?

All,

Just had a quick question. I've been wanting to get an iPhone for a while now and have been watching the refurb websites. I still have some time remaining on my contract with Verizon. If I were to buy the iPhone now and not activate it for a few months, would I still be able to use most of its functions? Would it essentially just be an iTouch? Appreciate your assistance.

Received my iPhone today and its in mint condition. Checked the warranty online and it said it was never activated but I also checked the last reset date for usage and it was 10/17/07 so I'm thinking this phone was previously jailbroken and activated. It's all good, firmware was 1.1.1 when I received it and its a 2007 week 38 build so it should have the 3.9 bootloader.

restore... follow the instructions to put the phone into recovery mode. also, download 1.1.4 from apple.com so you've got it before you start the restore process. I think there are explicit instructions in the thread somewhere.

Got mine; it's a bit newer than some, although still not très new. 2007, week 37, 1.1.1 pre-loaded. Condition appears pretty good, including accessory condition (not that I really plan on using them).

Updated and unlocked with apparent success -- a breeze, especially since the Bootloader 4.6 issue was a non-issue.... :) Now putting some music and stuff on it. Next step will be to actually check and make sure my T-Mo SIM works. :p Very nice... I resisted the iPhone for quite a while, but I always did admit that there's just something about its overall design gestalt that just ... makes you happy!

They were actually original only at stores, in the Northeast USA. The scuttlebutt at that time was that they were a "secret weapon" -- the stores were apparently instructed to offer them primarily to "seal the deal" with customers switching to AT&T who balked at the price. They showed up briefly as an online deal; presumably, they'll be back (or even better), but probably sell out quickly again, just as they did last week. Store stock is more variable... all depends on location and how much the store advertises (if at all) that they have them.

Still syncing songs! Grrr... USB2 is so slow! :p

I live in California. I ordered my iPhone last Tuesday 3/18 around 2:00 p.m. It finally showed up on the DHL website as being picked up in Texas Thursday 3/20 at 12:00 p.m., it then went to Wilmington, OH on 3/21 then on to Allentown Hub, PA where it spent the weekend. It ended up in Fresno yesterday at 10:00 a.m., then took a leisurely drive to Sacramento this morning. I would assume I'll get it today but I'm not holding my breath.

I wouldn't recommend DHL to anyone who might actually need their package in a timely manner.

Anyhoo, looking forward to my iPhone.

What you describe honestly isn't that unusual for any of the majors. Rather often, that first day is an electronic scan, when they don't even have the package yet. They probably actually got it Friday, which means that today would be the correct two day delivery date. Any later than today, and yeah, it doesn't meet two-day criteria, but...

But then, I could also snip and say that you should not be using the free shipping option if you need your things right this minute. ;)

I received my ATT refurb last friday. It looked and worked fine except that the battery never fully charged. It would get to 95% or so and the lightning symbol stayed on always. It never showed the little plug symbol in the battery. This morning, Tuesday, at 9:30 am it started to get hot in my pocket. In fact, it got burning hot and the screen was flashing all white then all black. I held down the 2 buttons and the screen went black and that was all she wrote. I went directly to the local Apple store, it opened at 10 am, I walked in without an appt., handed my HOT phone to the first person I saw. I walked out with a new phone at 10:15, activated and ready to use. A quick restore at home and it's like new again. The phone I received from Apple was completely up to date (1.1.4) and shows warranty until 4/09 on the Apple website.

Good luck everybody!

Just picked up my package from DHL today. (Came in yesterday, but I was out of town.) Powered it up and a screen came up with some sort of "Not correct sim" alert. Hit the "dismiss" button and up came the whole main menu. After a few tweaks, I got it to work with my network and now I'm wasting lots of time playing Freeverse sudoku! :) We also have an apple refurb (from Apple) waiting to be hooked up and all I can do on that one is dial 911. So does this mean the phone came unlocked?

btw, except for a squished instruction folder, looks exactly the same as the one we paid $100 more for from Apple! (meaning it looks brand new!)

not sure if you checked your firmware, but when the iphone first came out this was a common problem (the battery charger). i had the same thing happen with my 4gb iphone in that it never showed fully charged. next update corrected that mistake.
when you surf the net/youtube for extended periods of time the top portion of the phone does start to get pretty warm.
but hey, at least you got a new phone! can't beat that.

My understanding is that AT&T warrants it for 90 days under their blanket refurb policy, but *Apple* continues to warrant it as a refurb Apple product, even though it came from AT&T, by their policy, which is to give it a year....

That is my understanding too.

My wife's iPhone is a week 40. I faxed the coverage form and invoice yesterday, and I am just crossing my fingers they do give us a full year warranty. If they don't correct it in a few days (takes 72 hours?), I plan on calling in.

Worse come to worse, it is covered for 7 months, which sure beats 90 days. So the glass is half-full :)

re: warranty -- there's a sticker right on the side of my AT&T that says (amongst other things) that "Refurbished iPhones come with a 1-year warranty through Apple." And directs you to make a claim through Apple.

I haven't activated mine, but as soon as I do, I'll appeal to Apple (the page says my warranty is currently good through July 30, 08).

Yes, I did fill it on Saturday. I got the (automated?) replay saying they received my warranty claim, and to fax the invoice with the fax cover if I hadn't already done so. I faxed on Tuesday morning.. I usually get up at 4:30 am, so I forgot to bring the papers on Monday.

Seeing claims filled on Wednesday already approved is making me worry a bit. Hopefully it will be done tomorrow...

Well, I wouldn't worry too much. Obviously, other's iPhone are getting their warranties extended, so that shouldn't be a problem. If you don't hear back tomorrow, I might do the process again... or find a number to call. What is it 1800-SOS-APPL?? That's what it used to be anyway. There's no contact info on the email I got back, otherwise I'd give you the ph number/email address. Keep us posted.

i live in chicago and called around trying to find one. couldn't and just got one through ATT online instead.

I just found out about this deal, it's just what I need (or needed)!

Does anyone know if the deal is still available at any At&t stores in either Chicago or Arizona?

Thanks,

Just want to say, I took advantage of this deal, and I have to say. IT IS THE BEST, 249.99 I ever spent. Thanks all here for the heads up.

The phone couldnt be any more mint condition, as well as all the accessories that came with it! Just a great deal.

AT&T's site seems to only show the offer when it's available, and you get a blank store template page when it's gone. Apple has a refurbished iPod page, but they only have refurbs available (they continually go in and out of stock) if they show them on the page.

The refurbished iPhone 8GB has never been offered at $249 at Apple, though, AFAIK. Only at AT&T. $349 at Apple. It appears to be there now, though.

The AT&T price of $249 has also been offered in some AT&T Wireless stores. You might call local ones and ask.

From what I've been able to find out, the in-store refurbs may have only been available in select markets on the east coast. I have called numerous stores in Vegas and they all told me that they received no refurbs at all. :(

I'll just be patient for the next round of online refurbs. :)

If I do manage to find one at the store, and pay by credit card and don’t sign up for contract would they charge my card more? and if I give it as a gift to somebody and they unlock it what happens?

You don't sign up for the contract in the store since you can do it via iTunes, so that shouldn't change the price.

If you gift it to someone, and they unlock it, how would ATT charge you more for it later?

Don't get your hopes up though; I tried going around to some ATT stores and none of them had the refurbed phones there.

Mine arrived with an slight indentation on the corner of the case next to the headphone jack. Not the end of the world, but I decided to call ATT for a replacement and try my luck again.

They are sending another phone out and charging me another $249+tx for the cross-shipment, which is to be refunded when they get the original iPhone returned.

I wonder, is there anything that will be keeping me from keeping BOTH phones? This seems like a way to get more refurbished iPhones for $249 if you have already purchased one.;)

I just got off the phone with apple, and after quite a long time on hold they told me I need to contact ATT and get it re-serialized in order to get the warranty extended. They knew the phone was refurbished without me saying a word about it. Obviously, I'm not going to do that, and just drop the whole thing.

So those of you that got your warranty extended lucked out. Cheers! :)

I really don't see why people like you feel entitled to lecture to anyone else. I'm just calling things as I see them. Maybe some people find this information more helpful than you do.

In any case, I have contacted ATT again and confirmed things. Normally, if you kept both phones, you would be expected to activate both on a rate plan. And if you didn't, then you would be responsible for the entire nonsubsidized retail price of the phone that wasn't activated. But in the case of iPhone, there are no price subsidies linked with the phone purchase. So BOTH of the phones are purchased no strings attached.

The bottom line here is that ATT does indeed have additional refurbished iPhones available for sale. You just have to be a purchaser of a refurbished iPhone within the previous 14 days.

Actually I dropped my old giveaway cell down in the bilge of my boat while I was working on her a couple of days before the iphone deal. I was able to fish it out of there, take it apart, dry it out in the oven and still use it, but the screen wouldn't light up and you could hardly hear with it. Tuesday was my payday and I was going to buy a new cell as soon as I got paid anyway. I was just going to buy another "crap" phone to tide me over because my sister and I have been watching and waiting for the iPhone price to come down to a reasonable level since it first came out. Got her email telling me about the deal right before I got off of work, went right home and ordered it.

Yes, I needed a new phone, and thanks to this deal I didn't have to buy yet another "crap" phone to tide me over till the iPhone price finally came down.

Posting again in case someone has the same issues I had. I ignored Apple's customer support to call AT&T (Apple support was TERRIBLE). I faxed the paperwork again, and 48 hours later the warranty was reset to a full year. If you first don't succeed, try, try again.

Actually, I do need it. I needed it, I bought it, and I LOVE it. I went on ebay the night I bought it and bought a bluetooth earpiece for it for only 60 bucks, never used still in the box!. You should see my iPhone, sitting next to the comp in it's dock, charging up the phone and earpiece at the same time. The feeling I got showing it off to the friends at work who are stuck with "normal" phones was, and is, priceless. Just thinking about it, I'm smiling right now. I wish you knew what it feels like, but you don't. You missed out. You were denied. I know you're upset about it, but maybe you'll have better luck next time, right?

Same here man. I have called several stores and everyone acts like they don't know what I am talking about. They said that NO At&t stores have them in the store. But I know that isn't true. So I called At&t, and then that woman said that they don't even sale them online! I tried not to argue with her, but I was looking at the page where they are sold on the At&t site (sold out right now) while she was telling me this... just shaking my head.

Yeah, but it'll probably be when the 3G phones come out.

It's possible... I personally think June is a little too early for the 3G iPhone to come out, but I'd be happy enough to be wrong (Hell, I'm using mine on T-Mobile and they don't really have 3G anyways).

On the other hand, my iPhone from the refurb deal was originally activated in mid October 2007. From what I heard, it was one of the relatively newer ones in the refurb deal, with many being quite a bit older, and pretty much no one got one much newer than mine. That means that any refurbs that came back to AT&T since November or so have not been resold yet. That includes all the Christmas returns. That's the principal reason I think you'll see more refurbs from them in the near future.

CalBoy

So we could very realistically see more in the next few weeks as more phones are checked, repackaged, and inventoried.
