fan noise & mic

I cannot hear my friend when we are using Skype

because his Macbook's fan is overpowering the mic
it must be the placement of the mic

I do not have a problem with my MBP

are there any solutions for him?

An external Mic, turning up the input on his Sound Input Preferences those are your two options.

A $12 USB headset for PS2 would easily solve this problem.

What speed are the fans running at? Have you checked your microphone settings?
