external display when lid is closed?

Hi, i am new to Mac and i am just wondering how would i go about changing the option were the computer sleeps when the lid is closed, i would basically like to have my screen shut and use just an external display. thanks in advance.

when you plug in an external monitor and close the lid the computer will sleep. just plug in a usb keyboard and mouse and press any key. the computer will wake and allow you to use the monitor while keeping the display of the laptop shut.

You can also use InsomniaX (http://www.semaja2.net/insomniaxinfo/) to manually disable it going to sleep.
