Ok so theres a billion post on this already but my question is a bit different. I know that ctrl cmd shift 3 and 4 do the print screen function, and I hear the sound but i can't find the picture. Where does it save the picture? It used to save on my desktop but now i can't find it.

I haven't been able to find out exactly why the pics don't show up after taking the screen shot however if you didn't know you could do screenshots and have much more control on saving pics if you use "Grab". Grab is in the Utilities folder. Applications-Utilities-Grab. Or just type in "Grab" in Spotlight.

pressing ctrl along with "command+shift+3" will save the picture to your clipboard. open Preview and press "command+N" to view the picture.

press just "command+shift+3" will save it to the desktop. here is a list of all the screenshot keyboard shortcuts from Apple.
