I just received my replacement MBP 2.4 Glossy base Penryn. It has the 09C81 panel which I believe is an LG? I used graf's color profile to calibrate and the quality is exceptional. Ive seen many MBP and this is by far, the best screen I have seen on them...

Thoughts?

ive had 3 MBP's since penryn released, all 3 9C81's and 2/3 had yellow at the bottom. The one that didnt i had to take back because it had a loud buzzing noise that was so annoying. Its really a hit or miss sort of thing.

I think it's generally quite good, as long as you don't find its flaws :) Once you've seen them, there's no return....so don't go looking for them, just enjoy!

Yup, I just put this one on and it's just mildly better than the one I was using, which was from another member here. I'll keep this one, as I was going to borrow a friend's Spyder, but this is just as easy!

I have a matte 9C81 too and, while its not yellow at all, I am a bit disappointed by the graininess of text at smaller fonts (10-12 point). Do others feel the same? Yellowness apart, the 2.2 Ghz MBP LED screen I previously had seemed a bit better in this department. Nevertheless, its a keeper...

I have the 09C81 matte on my new 2.4Ghz Penryn as well. It doesn't seem to have any yellowing and the whites are very good. The colors seem to be a little less than natural compared to my external S-IPS LCD though. And I just tried the color profile that you guys are suggesting and I didn't much care for it. It seems too dark at least on mine. I'm pretty sure that I'm using the ICC from post number #65. Try it out and see what you think of it compared to the one from post #89.

Where do I find what screen I have?

system preferences>displays>color

Then, if you're on the "Color LCD" profile, click "Open Profile."

From there, click on box 13, and it'll be the last 4 digits of the "Model" field.

i also got the 9c81..
i don't know if it's my eyes or there's a light yellowish at the bottom..

but when i calibrated my screen using the spyder 2.2 profile.
everythin improved.
so it's just me.
after going with 9c66 9c83 and some some other MBPs..
i'm resting my case, time to be productive.. time to start working:D

I have the 9C81 as well, and after a quick calibration it is easily the best laptop screen I have ever seen. It doesn't hold a candle to my ACD, but then nothing does...

Also, about the yellowing. Keep in mind, that if you're looking down on the screen and you're not completely adjacent with it, it might look a little yellowed at the bottom when its not calibrated right.

It might even look a little yellow when correctly calibrated if you're not looking from a perfect angle.

that's exactly the case, and i think i have exchanged 2 MBPs because of that:D
and this forum... esp the thread, perform the yellow tint test

A good screen doesn't look yellow unless you're looking at it from an extreme angle. During normal use, a high quality laptop screen should look perfect from most angles that you'd look at a laptop from. If you see a yellow tint, it's a defect of the LCD.

All Laptop LCD are TN film. these are prone to extreme color shifting, some more than others. It is a limitation of the technology.

I'll come right out and admit that I'm clueless here. How do I apply this? Is it as simple as downloading and double-clicking? ColorSync utility comes up, then what??

ya and the 2 mbp's i have, the parts that have a slight yellow tint, actually look me yellow when you look at them head on, looking at them at an angle actually helps make it less yellow, so it has nothing to do with the angle.

You have to drag the .icc file into the ColorSync folder that is in your Library.

So, as I stated, I have the 9C81.

Today, after my computer had been asleep through the night, I woke it up only to see that I had the vertical line problem. Not terrible, but enough that would bug me had I had to deal with it.

So, in an attempt to talk myself out of what I was seeing, I shut it down completely, took a shower, came back, and wham. All gone.

So, what's causing this problem? OSX getting confused about something? The screen gets confused?

Do we have any conclusive evidence of the problem yet?

on a white bacground doesnt the shadows of the toolbar or windows dont blend out nicely? you can see where it ends? i got thesame model as yours and ive sent it back for replacement i had yellowing and the shadows didnt blend out nicely. my girlfriend got the 09c81 model and the screen was very much nicer than mine brighter and the shadows blend out nicely and didnt show where they ended.

I took a closer look at this and I do see where the shadows end on a white desktop background, but I also noticed that if you have another window opened under, and the shadow is on the other window it ends much more smoothly.

I'll compare with my cinema display it appears its the function of the OS and not a fault of the LCD.

I too have an 09C83 with the 1/3 yellow problem. And yes, if I put a window on top of a white background, the shadow does not fade smoothly. I think that may be the same reason why my fonts look blurry - especially near the bottom of the screen.

I have an 83 as well, but I don't understand what "the shadow does not fade smoothly" means. All Macs have shadows... Can someone take a picture? I don't have the 1/3 yellow problem. Are ALL the 83s bugged? Or is it just mine that isn't?

Mines is 9C83 and is perfect. Used that profile from the other thread and the screen now looks amazing, perfect colours.
