Capturing DVD clips

I am doing a speech on artificial intelligence, and I wanted to use short 15 - 30 second at most clips for popular movies in my speech to illustrate Hollywood's view of artificial intelligence. How can I capture just the clips that I need (or trim them out of a full DVD capture clip)?

Thanks that got me started on the right track, but all it gives is equally unintelligible VOB files. I found an app DivXRay2 to convert it to avi, and then DivX Doctor which also needs the 3ivx component, but yes, I finally did get it working.
