After getting a new MBP I have upgraded to 4 Gigs RAM and noticed a significant change in boot time becoming noticeably slower. Several friends have stated that this is normal but could not explain why? Is it normal and why? This is what I see now since upgrading my RAM:

1. Gray/white screen with Apple logo
2. The loading circle appears under the Apple logo
3. Two shades of Blue screen for several seconds
4. Directly to the desktop with loading times

Whenever you boot a Mac it runs a diagnostic routine to verify your hardware is in good working order. It takes twice as long for it to scan 4 gigs of RAM as it does 2 gigs.
