4 Months ago I tried out geekbench for the first time on my Powerbook G4 12" 1.5GHz which had 512mb of RAM at the time.

It scored a grand total of 825 (links to score page) (http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/view/21535)

Yesterday, I upgraded the RAM and inserted a 1GB module to boost my powerbook to the max. spec. of 1.25GB of RAM

I have just done the test again only to recieve a score of 667 (http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/view/47089)

Is this something to do with the RAM or has my computer decided to collapse on me during the last 4 months?

Thanks

Geekbench gives a lower score on G4's running Leopard than it did on Tiger, possibly, I guess because Leopard IS slower on G4's. My PB 1.67 scored 910 with Tiger but scores 780 under Leopard. Upgrading my RAM actually increased the score very slightly.

You've got it. The newer the OS, the more resources it will require to achieve the same level of performance of the previous OS. This is how the software industry drives the hardware industry.

Ofcourse! How simply minded of me to not take this into consideration!

Gosh, I wonder what I would have scored without my new Ram.... So the new Macbook Pro that is tested under my name (Although I was in an Apple Store :)) (http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/view/46792) is more than 3x better than my trusty old powerbook! Wow

Technology has moved quite far in only 2 and a half years time!

Thanks for the help!

Its been previously discussed that Geekbench is NOT a RAM intensive application. I had similiar results from 2GB to 4GB. Everything is much faster however Geekbench had less than a 2% change.
