I want to begin converting my DVDs for media streaming. I don't own any of the three devices yet, but as I am unsure of which I will buy, I want to convert my movies in the best quality format that could theoretically be handled by any of the extenders.
Which settings should I aim for?

Using the latest version of Handbrake just use the PS3 presets, these work on both the AppleTV and the PS3 just fine, though streaming to the PS3 won't work over 802.11b or g, you'll need ethernet or to copy the movies to the PS3 hard disk. I'm using medialink to share my mac content with the PS3, it's pretty good.
