Just something for new HD buyers to consider:
Fujitsu 320GB, 7200 RPM Drive (http://209.85.135.104/translate_c?hl=en&u=http://pr.fujitsu.com/jp/news/2008/03/24.html)
Samsung 500GB 500 RPM Drive (http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/news/news.phtml/12009/13033/samsung-500gb-spinpoint-m6-harddrive.phtml)
the 320GB won't be shipping until June, the 500GB should be out sooner (possibly still sometime in March)

I've been waiting for a fast 320gb drive for my MBP for some time. However, I thought the MBPs took a 9mm drive. Is that 0.5 mm usually glossed over in general terms?

Awesome. This should drop the price even further on the 5400rpm 320GB drive offered by Western Digital. If it does I will be buying that drive as I do not need the increased performance of a 7200rpm drive.

I normally see the 9.5mm. And that is the size that the MBPs take. I really want that 500GB drive though. *drool*

I agree, I would love to have a 500GB drive and would certainly find a way to use the space. But I honestly don't need that much space on my notebook. I am more willing to throw extra drives in my PC and just store the stuff I don't use everyday there.

Something to look forward to, I need more capacity than my current 160GB 7200rpm drive. The extra speed is awesome, but that with the 320GB would be perfect.

don't you guys mean 2.5" HDDs? meaning 6.25cm. 9mm is a measly 0.36" There are 3.5" desktop-class/external HDD-class HDD drives, 2.5" laptop-class, or 1.8" iPod/MacBook Air class drives.

9.5mm refers to thickness of the drive not the width that 2.5" refers to.

@kwood: Thanks for the correction. Does this mean we can use it on our MBPs without hassle? Let's hope the next top-end MBP comes with 500GB at least as a BTO, with maybe 320GB/300GB standard.

2.5" refers to the diameter of the platter, not the width of the drive.
