I desperatley need to replace my macbooks hd with something bigger. I've been pricing 200-250g hd's from apple for about $230 US. I've noticed others such as this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145160 for considerably less.
Any reason that model wont work?
What should i be looking for when purchasing a hd?
And I'm currently running 5400 rpm, what will the 7200 rpm upgrade do performance-wise?

That model would work fine.
You might see some performance enhancement from buying a 7200 RPM drive, but unless you're doing a lot of disk-intensive activities I'd say it's not likely going to be the sort of thing you'd notice in day-to-day use. They can run a little hotter and impact battery life, but not significantly.

The day I got my Macbook I replaced the hard drive with a 200gb 7200rpm drive and I think it works great and was well worth the upgrade. I haven't noticed any related heat issues or battery life problems.

Some 500GB drives are too tall to fit, but Samsung's will

Hard drive must be 9.5 mm tall or less.
