Well my Refund check finally came and i will be putting my order in this morning for my iMac Refurb.
I am 90% sure that i am going with the 24" but i need that extra reassuance that i know you guys can provide. Is the 24" really warth the $250 difference that it is in the refurb store from the 20" with the same specs? (its amazing that after about a month of research i still need this reassurance)
Also i want to get apple care but don't really want to get it today (i will be using the rest of my check to get 4gb of ram right after I place the order for the iMac). Is it true that i have a year from purchase date to buy applecare?

Yes, you can buy AppleCare up to one year after the DOP.
I'd say the 24" is worth it, if only for the larger screen and slightly better graphics.
I got two 24" displays for my Mac Pro; not 20", 24". 1920x1200 is a beautiful thing, but 3840x1200 is astounding.

I have the 24" iMac and it's definitely worth it. I love having the extra screen space.
I bought my iMac in January and I probably won't buy AppleCare until this fall. I might not even get AppleCare, it just depends. I have, however, bought AppleCare with my past 2 Apple computers and I had to use it with both computers.

Just to clarify, you have a year from your computer purchase date to activate AppleCare. After that year, Apple will likely say tough luck.

Get the 24". We went with a 20" iMac last year, and I've been kicking myself ever since for not getting the bigger screen. :apple:

So if i buy the computer today 3/25/08 and buy applecare 3/25/09 and activate it that day it is ok Right?
(this is the extreme as I will probably get it in a month or two but i just wanted to make sure that i have the info clear)

Yes, that's correct, but be aware that telephone support ends after three months and doesn't start again until you activate your Applecare. So, if you wait, you lose those intervening months of phone support . . . .

20" has a 6-bit panel: 2^6 red * 2^6 blue * 2^6 green = 262,144 "colors".
24" has an 8-bit panel: 2^8 red * 2^8 blue * 2^8 green = 16,777,216 "colors".

Well I did it. I just ordered the 24" Refurb 2.4ghz Alu Imac.
I want to thank this fantastic Forum for all the great info that they have given me and for making me feel like i made a very well informed purchase.
BTW i also picked up a 4gb kit from OWC for $96. (for some reason newegg and ramjet only had up to 2gb on sale).
PC wont have me to kick around anymore.

Good choice. You'll love it. I also maxed out my RAM, but I bought if from Crucial for $109.
