Not sure how I managed to to this but now all my images from my 40D are named _MG_XXXX instead of IMG_XXXX.

I can't find anything in the menus or manual, anyone have any ideas how I can change it back??

I don't have a 40D ... I have a 30D and 5D.

Whenever I manage to get 'lost' inside the camera I do a Camera RESET.
( Never had these problems with my film cameras! :D :D :D )

The total reset will take you back to 'out of the box' configuration.

Be WARNED though it will RESET ALL SETTING you may have entered.

I actually do a RESET regularly in case I did something unusual the day before.

I figured that would work but I only want to do that as a last resort. I have the 40D configured nicely, except for the file name issue

Did a quick search and seem to have found the answer:

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1019&message=26425412

"It has nothing to do with jpg v. raw. If you use sRGB color space, you get "img", if you use AdobeRGB, you get "_mg." That's so you know, at a glance, which color space the file was captured in, although it doesn't matter for raw as you can convert into whatever color space you choose."

and there was a follow up comment:

"It would seem that you can change the prefix in EOS Utility. Is there any reason not to use another prefix, say your initials?"

Seems as though a read of the manual is in order so you can change the _ to something less wierd :) There was another site which gave the same basic answer.
