Hi,
I've got some questions about the MacBook Pro's keyboard.
1) Is it hard to scratch the keys? They feel like they can be easily scratched with a nail or something - not sure though.
2) What are the shiny streaks that come and go on the keys?
3) Is there any way to clean underneath the keyboard? On my old 12" iBook the keyboard was removable. Is it on the 15" MBP?
Thanks
Luis

Mine have been quite resistant through everything I've put them through.

Keyboard lighting you mean?

Not really..
Thanks

No...lol
They look kind of like grease marks.

Perhaps they're grease marks, i.e., oil from your hands? If this causes concern, wash your hands.
My MBP keyboard has never shown those kinds of marks, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. Post a photo or two.

If its the same marks that sometimes occur with me then it's oil from your hands. It's not that big of a problem, you can either wipe them away with your fingers (ironically) or just let them evaporate away.

Yeah you can clean the keyboard. Just carefully peel off each key. You can also open up the case and remove the keyboard, but I wouldn't do that.

I've had my MBP for almost 4 months now and I can tell you that the keys don't scratch or anything from daily use. If you see grease marks on your keyboard wipe them off with your finger or something soft and then go wash your hands. I never use anything without washing first. I'm kinda weird like that.

Im not sure what shiny streaks you are seeing. I don't notice anything like that on my MBP.
Unless you run a wire brush over the keyboard you aren't going to scratch the keys. I don't have any problems with mine.
You can remove the keyboard to clean but it requires surgery. You'll need a very small phillips head screwdriver, a torx bit screwdriver and you have to remove the battery, memory cover, the torx screws underneath and all the screws around the edges. Thats the easy part. After that you have to pull the top case off and disconnect the keyboard connection. it doesnt come off easily and requires a lot of patience. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that isn't comfortable working on computers. If you bend the top case even slightly during removal there will be a gap between it and the bottom case when you put it back on. Just use computer duster.:D
