Hello all! I have a quick question, I have a perfectly functioning Powerbook G4 Titanium, 1Ghz, 1GB Ram, 60GB Drive, etc. and am curious if I should part it out, or sell it whole. Which would I make more money from? Keep in mind Ill be selling on ebay AND MR (if anyone wants the parts). Keep in mind it has brand new hinges, nearly MINT condition (except for some damage to one part of the LCD housing from hinge install) and a small crack in the front of the lower housing. I'd like to sell it here on MR for $420 shipped, but could I get more for all of the parts than that? I'm also willing to take offers from the MR Community for the whole item. (Also has original box, disks).

If it all works and there are no problems with it I would sell it as a whole. You might get more money for it parting it out (not sure though) but it will be a heck of a lot more work to part it out and sell and ship the individual parts to people. Then there is the chance that you get stuck with parts that you now have no use for. I am sure plenty of people would be interested in that model Powerbook whole. I would think that you could sell that whole for somewhere between $350 - $500 depending on the buyer. I know that is a big range but it depends alot on condition and what you have with it (i.e. original software, accessories and boxes). Hope this helps you, of course it is just my opinion.

Also you should post some pictures of the unit.

Posted :)

Original software and box comes with it, has leopard installed. Will uninstall per rules though if anyone decides to take it as a package. ;).

Here's how I look at it though, hinges alone go for $65 on ebay. Two hinges would be $130, LCD could go for at least $100, the Motherboard will run in the upper $100 range on ebay, that's already $400... not to mention the little knicknacks that can be sold off of it... perhaps parting out will be the best idea! I've already totaled a list of $655 :). Original Airport cards go for $60 on there! :)

If you have the patience to deal with non-paying bidders, jacked accounts, chargebacks, and many trips to the post office/shipping store - then I say part it out and maximize profits.

I would go with the selling it whole. Parting something out usually nets high $s for some items but then you can get stuck with parts that nobody needs (that you have to ship off to recycling).

You should also state that it's a 15" and not a 12", big price difference and desirability beteen the two.

I would part it out, might take you a few hours and to package up and ship all the different items. Now is that worth your time to make an extra Benjamin or two?

There was never a 12" Titanium Powerbook.

Oh sorry my bad. Didn't see the Titanium part :p. I saw the 1ghz so then this has an upgraded processor? I thought the Tibooks only came with a 400/500mhz processor?

No, they definitely came up to 1Ghz. This was the last one they made. They had 3 editions, the Titanium Onyx, Mercury, and DVI. If I remember correctly Onyx was the 400-500 ones, Mercury somewhere up around 800, then DVI which was 1Ghz.

Personally, I'd sell it whole.

I once parted out a Powerbook G3 on eBay.

Ended up not making nearly as much as I thought I was going to, plus then I had some stuff leftover, then also had some bidders who said the part arrived DOA, etc.

Not worth the headache for the bit of extra profit if you ask me. Laptop parts are too fragile. :(
