Hidden files on Leopard .. ?

Deeper, TinkerTool, etc.

Or Terminal.app: Type defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool TRUE then restart Finder*

* To add quit to Finder menu, use Deeper, TinkerTool, etc or Terminal: defaults write com.apple.finder QuitMenuItem -bool yes then restart Finder (restart, log out and back in or Terminal: killall Finder)

Agreed, but for newbies (dunno if that describes OP), going into Terminal can be scary stuff, and having a pic to follow helps, although there is always the danger of typos 🙂

Open terminal, type in

ls -la

I hope I don't sound strident or intemperate, but newbies need to get over their fear of the terminal. They don't know what they're missing. Windows is a perfect example of what it's like working in an OS without a proper shell.
 
I don't think that newbies will be delving into the terminal too often, nor should they need to, so why do they "need to get over their fear of the terminal" - they should not need to use that on a regular basis as the GUI is so cool 🙂

What I meant was that as a new mac user, the terminal can be a daunting confrontation, as can command line in Windoze.

Hence, I thought a screenshot was a useful addition.

I agree to an extent. Most users should never have to bother with Terminal. Although I think anyone who feels the need to look at hidden files should probably go ahead and get comfortable with Terminal, as they're the kind of person who'll probably need it in the future... 🙄
