Best Speaker for under $100?

Hey Everyone!

I'm interested in upgrading my 2.1 system to something newer and better. Last year I purchased a set of Creative speakers from the Apple Store but I am definitely ready to upgrade. Which systems do you guys/gals use or what would you suggest? I'm looking for a set under $100 with good sound quality during both high and low volume settings. Preferably with limited to no cell phone distortion!! Thanks for any feedback and suggestions!

Doubt you will find something in the 2.1 range let alone 5.1 range better for less than $100. Try looking at Klipsch and JBL.

Thanks Roland! I dont mind if its a 2.1 system or just 2 speakers (like the bose companion 2's?) I just dont want to get something a little nicer.

The Logitech are a little cheaper but like midrange slightly, they are also a little more attractive. The klipschs are nicer but they're a little more expensive. They are also kind of ugly. So I'm sort of making that choice too.

There are 2 Klipsch Promedia 2.1s. The GMX A-2.1 are certainly not attractive, but the regular 2.1 with the grill on looks fine.

great sound fairly accurate
they will bark so hard at you, u will run before they give out

simple to setup and u can plug ur ipod into it.
u can turn down the sub and use the 2 monitors and still be satified with the sound someting the logitech montior cannot do because they give you these baby speakers but a massiv sub.

look around for them
i got myne for 80 bucks
and seen them advertising in best buy flyer for as low as 60 bucks!!!!

Yup, that's them with the grill. I have a pair of stereo speaker Klipsch KG-2s that I bought in 1990 and still going strong. They are probably the best and still most underrated speaker co. out there.

The Klipsch and Logitechs are good, jst depends on what you like, the Klipsch will probably sounder.

i just picked up the Logitech Z-4's. Overall, pretty nice sounding. Very clear, no hissing. I wasn't looking for anything to blow the walls down so this fit the bill nicely. They also make Z-4i's which, according to their site, are the same as the Z-4's but in a color combo that matches Macs better. You can get them for about $90 at local stores or even cheaper online.

Those logitech speakers seem nice... i like that remote they come with, and the price isn't to awful bad either!

iThink that as a Student you would prefer the Klipsch:


They are more durable
They are louder w/ a bigger bass
They are going to sound better then the Logitechs
Klipsch has great customer service, as they are a Pro Audio Company

I bought this 2.0 speaker few weeks ago and it's one of the famous speaker set with dual mids and a highs. It give you a clarity and tight lows as well. The cost should be around your budget.

The Durability would be a huge plus as I move around a lot being a student, and of course the sound quality is huge as well, thats why I'm upgrading in the first place. :cool: I would like to stay under $100 for this purchase BUT if they are that much better than the Logitech product and only $50 more, then it may be worth it.

It's US$126. You can buy around lower than this at online shops.

The KG-2s are larger floor speakers I have for a stereo reciever.
You would want the Klipsch Promedia 2.1s (not the GMX A-2.1 model).
They would be the one I posted the pic of, there is also a link to them.
I too think they will outperform the Logitech and give you more durability/longevity.

I was talking about any Klipsch product, except maybe their IEM's, which are not the best durability

You made the right decision. the Klipsh are clearly the best speakers without going beyond your price range.

I'm pretty happy with my $50 Insignias. Considering I have MB Quarts in my car and Infinities for my home theater, I think this is quite a statement.
