View Full Version : Bands you miss

I was eating at Bennigan's the other day and I suddenly found myself engulfed in nostalgia as "Til I Hear It From You" by the Gin Blossoms started to play in the background. I wasn't a big fan or anything, I didn't even own any of their records, but I remember the time when that song was popular and I somehow miss that feeling. That incident also got me thinking about The Cranberries and how I didn't even notice that they weren't around anymore.

What other no longer existing bands do you miss?

Duff-Man says....a few for me....

Azure Ray - while both Maria and Orenda's solo albums are decent they're not as good as what they did together.
Slowdive - again, I like the subsequent Mojave 3 stuff but I miss that shoegazer spacey guitar noise of Slowdive
Mazzy Star - they had supposedly started a new album but then nothing...

...probably more too, but I should be working heheheh....oh yeah!

Nickel Creek, now on indefinite hiatus.

Also Portishead and My Bloody Valenti— oh wait. :D

And, embarrassingly enough, if Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones got back together for a Savage Garden reunion album/tour, I'd buy it/go. :o Their self-titled album came out when I was in 7th grade and was the biggest force that got me into any modern music—before that I shunned nearly all of it in favor of classical.

Any of these bands without dead members (and probably a few with dead members) will no doubt reunite in our lifetimes.

Maybe even The Smiths, thought they're probably on the far end of the "unlikely" scale.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure on how things got so out of hand with those guys. The Police? Three certifiable egomaniacs -- albeit uber talented -- I'm surprised they stuck together as long as they did.

Morrissey and Marr wrote amazing music together, sort of the Lennon-McCartney for the 80s/90s. They suffer profoundly from the lack of the other, and I don't understand what is keeping them apart.

You mean the original line-up, or...? Because Weezer is still together, and going to release their 6th album this year. Of course, I wish they wouldn't, as everything after Pinkerton has been varying levels of mediocre to *****, but that's neither here nor there.

I don't know how I forgot to mention Pulp in my original post; one of the groups I truly regret not having seen live.

Of course Jarvis Cocker is still around, and his solo album isn't much of a departure from what he produced with Pulp; and seeing as how many lineup changes Pulp went through over 20 years, with Jarvis as the constant, one could argue that Pulp never really broke up, rather Jarvis just dropped the name.

Tora Tora. early 90s rock band. 1st 2 albums rocked and they had a 3rd ready for release then their label was bought out and the new numbnuts shelved it.

apparently, a band can buy back their material after x amount of time. i'm still thinking about starting a website to get fans to donate enough cash for these guys to release it.

they're going to rocklahoma in the summer. very tempted to make the 22 hour drive (and see a ton of other hair metal bands from the late 80s/90s).

<sigh> it's all selfish. i just love the tunes! :)

I cannot recall when I found this little band from the UK but they're called Anastasia. They were out long before the Anastasia we all know came along. They're amazing. When I went to the UK I looked for anything I could find on them and came up empty handed. This is probably the only band I've ever truly "missed". I don't have nearly enough of their music.

Yes! Poe FTW!!! She had this Poe Ball thing too that was being passed around by fans all over the country while she was recording. I really hope she pulls something together. I also miss a band called The Refreshments (not to be confused with The Replacements. And also a female-led band called Republica. I really miss The Cars, too. But I think the big one has to be Zeppelin.

Skid Row (pre-Subhuman Race album) before Sebastian Bach left the band due to 'musical differences' :P

Their last two albums with the new vocalist are okay, but they simply don't have that edge that Seb's voice brought to the party.

Anyone who misses them would do well to check out Seb's solo album, released last year, called Angel Down. The man can still wail... and he has a couple of duets with Axl Rose, for those of you who miss the glory days of GNR!
