So,

I just received an Air for a gift and currently use a MBP. I'm a freshman college and have numerous papers and course documents as well as other files on my laptop. I checked how much memory is being used, it says 31.3 GB.

From your experiences, how long did it take to transfer all your files from your older Macs to the air?

My Macbook Air is at home (located 45 minutes from me) and I will be going home this weekend to finally open it and hope to transfer all my files and bring it back to school on Sunday.

g or n networking?

on my g-only G4's, transferring home directories using migration assistant wirelessly is painfully slow. I'd say probably overnight or longer for 30 gigs. Keep in mind, if you're system says it's using 30 gigs or so that includes the system files, which you won't need to transfer and which take longer per gig than say docs or images.

Oh yeah...your'e right :)

So, I'd say about a good 2000-5000 photos and one hundred-three hundred documents. How long?

30 GB should take a few hours - probably overnight at worst. There was some testing done at appleinsider.com with the Time Capsule & they showed it was ~10min per GB.

Over wifi I'd say definatly over night... I did mine (38Gigs) and after about 4 hours it was 60% or so... so i'd be an overnighter (this is over G networking)

it may be a pain in the ass, but if you have a thumb drive or an ipod, you could transfer it way faster over USB.... I used my 8gig nano, and step by step got everything over to my other computer in about 35 minutes....
