I want to do it because I am making a website and podcast picture for my friend

Gimp isn't a vector tool, but you can use it to make images similar to those you posted (you should post credits for the creators as well). Here are some Gimp tutorials (http://www.gimp-tutorials.com/), but I didn't find one specific to vectoring. Once you learn the tools in Gimp (pen tool), you can use a tutorial for vectoring in general, and apply it to your software. Also, look into masking and layers. Good luck.

Thanks for all the help!

What program do you recommend for vector? Can you tell me more about it.

Adobe Illustrator is a great vectoring program. Here is a link (http://www.vectorials.com/) to some tutorials on vectoring.
