how do I add my "Word" icon to the tool bar at the bottom of my desktop so that I can just click on it to open Word? 😡 For some reason it just disappeared OR I did something wrong.

I believe when you see the "W" on the dock you can right click and say "leave on dock" or something like that.

apps appear in the Dock when they are opened. but if they arent "pinned" to the dock they will disappear when closed.
to permanently add an app to the dock add it when its closed or right click it on it in the dock and choose "Keep in Dock" while the app is open.

right click (secondary click) can be set on a mighty mouse or as 'two finger' click on a MacBook trackpad in Keyboard & Mouse in System Preferences.

I dragged the "word" icon into the desktop dock and it is now there - parked. Thanks.
