A federal judge yesterday granted a request by the U.S. government for the shutdown of Rx Depot and its San Diego affiliate Rx of Canada, whose stores enabled customers to purchase medicines from Canada at a discount on U.S. prices.
The decision by U.S. District Judge Claire Eagan could also affect cities and states nationwide that are considering allowing the importation of drugs to cut rising prescription costs.
Rx Depot and Rx of Canada, which opened in San Diego County nine months ago, operate 85 stores throughout the United States.
"This is a very sad day for seniors who don't have access to the Internet and who don't have the resources to go to Canada," said Scott Kirkland, who owns the two Rx of Canada stores in the county.
