Hi there,
Very new at this. (please let me know if there's another thread where I should be posting this).
Thought I'd try to use iWeb to create a web site for my one-man (me) video production business. A few questions:
1. if I use iWeb, does it get hosted on mac.com? Is there anything I need to do, other than join mac.com?
2. I'm in the video business, so I'd like to be able to include lots of moving pictures on my different web pages. Can iWeb do this? (do I need to learn Flash?)
3. on my first (Welcome) page, can I substitute a looped movie (water flowing, shot on miniDV - - flowing water has to do with my business name) for one of the photos? I'd like this to be playing at all times (i.e. I don't want someone to have to press a 'play' button)
Thanks for any advice,
malch

Answer, you can host it through mac.com, or you could host it through another hosting service, or you could host it on a Free Hosting Service. Just cause it is a Apple product does not mean you have to have a mac.com account to host your site. They just make that the default choice since it is there program.

You change the hosting server settings to whatever you want in the program.

2. I'm in the video business, so I'd like to be able to include lots of moving pictures on my different web pages. Can iWeb do this? (do I need to learn Flash?)

You can include as many movies as you can produce on your page. Here is a free movie editor http://sourceforge.net/project/screenshots.php?group_id=131273 . Quicktime movies are really easy to include. When I looked at iWeb and that was a while back, Flash movies where not as easy to include, that might have changed since then. If iWeb allows the inserting of code you could insert the code directly into the page to make the flash movie work. Again, it has been a some time since I looked at the program, Flash might be easier to insert now. Here is a site where you can find the code for inserting flash movies into sites http://www.alistapart.com/

If you want a middle of the road easy to use web editor, get freeway pro http://www.softpress.com They take both flash and quicktime very easy.

As far as learning Flash, if all you want to do is make simple slide shows, the programs here can help.

I have only used the vertical moon products myself.

3. on my first (Welcome) page, can I substitute a looped movie (water flowing, shot on miniDV - - flowing water has to do with my business name) for one of the photos? I'd like this to be playing at all times (i.e. I don't want someone to have to press a 'play' button)

If you learn these three html, css, php and some of the others out there, there is not much you can't build. Looping and self starting is not a problem.
