Check to see when its going to be happening in your area - should be a good show if the weather is agreable.

I'll try and get some pics. Anyone else gets some, make sure you post them.

Thanks for the hot tip.The visible portion of the eclipse will begin in the Americas just after 6 p.m. ET, but only for eastern residents. Along the western coast the eclipse will be underway as the Moon rises above the horizon at sunset. The visible portion of the eclipse will be over before 10:30 p.m. ET.

so will it even be visible on the west coast at 3PM PST? The point when it begins on the east coast?

It sucks cuz I tried to get a camera from school on too short of notice and didnt get to check one out for the weekend :(

It's been on my calendar for a month, but I had completely forgotten until seeing this thread. Thanks for the heads up.

When is the next solar eclipse? I don't think we've had one in about eight years...

Well, this morning its sunny and clear - I just hope it will be like that tonight - if a bit chilly. I'll be out taking pics :D

The only thing is that the whole eclipse lasts from about 5:30 to 11:30, with the full effect happening around 8ish.

Probably a little before that we'll get the nice red/orange/yellow moon. :D

I'll try and post pics later.

a nice post mr anderson, 500 years ago our ancestors would be running around thinking now who turned that moon blood red? weve come a long ways baby but got a long ways to go, the universe is so cool or should i say the brane that we are on or trapped in is cool?

It'll be almost in totality by the time it's visible on the west coast (5ish).

Hopefully I can get some decent shots of it coming out...

good evening rower, looks like here in south carolina we are going to have cloudy skies and possibilty of rain so no viewing pleasure for me though i have seen it before, hope a lot of us mac lovers will have a chance to view and understand, anyways who made those strings?

It'll probably be cloudy here at the coast, so I'll have to head inland for the best shots.

What strings, Dont Hurt Me?

Moon is up here in Minnesota, on a beautiful cold (29F -2C) clear night. I will try to get some shots, but since I'm not shooting through a telescope, they may not turn out so well.

I guess we'll see. :)

Damn, it's overcast and raining in San Francisco, so it looks like I'm going to miss it.

Agreed. I wish I could look, but it's blocked out.

It is clear here in Boston, so I could see the eclipse. According to our local weather channel I missed the totality at 8pm EST. It was still an awesome site. I tried taking pictures with my digital camera. Have to change the battery before looking at them. If there is anything to, will see if my wife can post.

That is a great picture obeygiant, thank you for posting. My turned out to be only a white speck! :( Just went outside to look again at 9:20pm EST the eclipse is at about the halfway point.

All I got tonite were clouds. :(

However, I did see four lights moving in circles on the clouds, which means that either we're being invaded by space aliens or there's a grand opening or movie premiere where they have klieg lights going. Or both.

great pic obeygiant! it was very clear in SE MI. i tried to spend as much time as possible peering at the sky tonight. mars was so far away and the aurora borealis was too cloudy to get a good look. i did see a meteor shatter a bit before. but at least i got one good look at the heavens this year.

I saw it all the way into totality, then clouds covered it during the reappearance. I didn't expect to be able to see the dark part - that was amazing. During totality, you could still see a dark, brownish moon.

obeygiant's photo is gorgeous and captures it perfectly.

I too saw the eclipse from the roof of my apartment building. It was fairly clear in Toronto last night and the clouds only breifly obscured the moon but man was it cold up on that roof! The best part was I kissed this woman I've been seeing for the first time during the eclipse... I just remember thinking "This is too perfect to let it go by." All in all it was a very good night! :D

My eclipse shots:

Light cloud cover made the longer exposure shots tough, but all in all I was happy with it.

Very nice shots Rower, thank you for sharing. Were these taken along a highway?

Thanks. They were taken at a stop along I-8 (you can see a sign in several shots), just east of Alpine.

On the east coast my sister was really hyper about the event... but she was thinking it was a 'total' total eclipse, but there was a sliver of moon that constantly appeared... she (and I) thought it was total...

A jip.

I was wondering about that....my dad and I stood out in his yard for I don't know HOW long, waiting for totality (the moon was about half-gone when we came out). That last little bright sliver along the one side never really disappeared. Unfortunately my arthritic knees started complaining of the cold before I could see the moon begin to return.

Kickass pic, obeygiant. Hope you don't mind me sending that to my dad. :)
