On my Windows PC, I have the file "Hosts" in the Windows directory that redirects all ad-server URL's (doubleclick, stuff like that) to 127.0.0.1 so that my web-pages load quickly and aren't full of the ads that can take ages to load. IMO it makes the web a much nicer place :D

Is the hosts file in /etc the way to do this on my iPhone? The file there now has a message about "used to configure the loopback interface when the system is booting. Do not change this entry" in it, but could I add other entries below that to achieve the same thing on Safari on the iPhone, again so that the pages I visit will load quicker?

I tried unsucessfully to block ads with the hosts file. There is a commercial ad blocking program though.

http://www.cocoamug.com/adblock/

I wish someone would create one for free though.

What you can do (google) is to set up a proxy on your computer with a file that filters all adīs.

Hopefully an ablock will be available in August, when I buy my 3G Iphone.
