OK, here's what happened:

I was on Pixelmator (an image editing application similar to Photoshop), just mucking about with some photos.

I added an effect to an image (a zoom blur to an eye to be precise) and it froze and I got the spinning beach ball of death. Then the entire system froze, and it took me ages to eventually restart the computer, after trying to force quit Pixelmator and iTunes, which was also running.

So when I rebooted, the same loading screen came up, I heard the chime at the start and the log on screen came up as it usually does.

HOWEVER, when I entered my password, it just returns to the log in screen, thus not letting me log on to my account. But I can log on to other accounts  (I'm writing this post on my dad's account).

So what is the problem? My last resort is to wipe the drive and reinstall Mac OS X. I searched around the web, but couldn't find an answer. I might try and go to my local Apple Store and see a Genius about it.

Any ideas or solutions will be appreciated :)

Thanks so much :)

If you can boot from the install disk there's an option to change your password.
See if that helps.

Just tried resetting my password, but no joy.
And the caps lock is definitely not on.
Thanks anyway :)

if your dad's account is an administrator, try to see if there is some way to restore your account back to the day before it happened, try searching on google or something.

Theres no need to re-install.

The problem is your user account not the system.

Does the login window shake when your enter the password?
That means your password is incorrect.
You can log into your dad account and reset the password on your account.

If the login window doesn't shake, something in your account is messed up.

You Dad account is your saving grace.
At that point you log into your dad account and try to fix you user account.
You can make the dad account have full access to your user account folder.

But that might be outside your understanding and you might destroy you account, maybe a apple store visits might be best for you :D
