Is it ok to update iTunes if you have a jailbroken iPhone?

I know you cant install firmware updates to the iPHone if a new one were to come out, but I see iTunes has an update and I dont know if I should install it or not.

generally, _._.x updates are ok
it would be all over these boards if its not safe
