I was curious if there is a way to modify the dock to show open documents (that aren't minimized) for easy switching between them.

The dock won't do it, but that's what I use expose for - I have it mapped to the side buttons on my mouse and must use it a couple dozen times per day.

If Expose doesn't cover your needs, however, take a look at Witch, which offers an alternative way of sorting windows...

Expose is kind of clumsy when you have 10 windows open and your immediate need is to work with 3 of them. I'd really like it if I could have every open window nested in the dock just like they are when they are minimized.

I had never heard of Witch before but it seems like something that could be quite useful. I'll give it a shot this afternoon.

Have you tried spaces?
