Is anyone else PSYCHED about the new Death Cab for Cutie album?
13 May - Narrow Stairs. The new single, I Will Possess Your Heart, is soooo amazing.
Any other fans as excited as I am?

Have you seen them live? They are absolutely incredible.
I'm definitely hoping to catch more than one show when they're back in England.

Yes, I saw them about a year and a half ago, and I'm seeing them again (20th row!) in June. At the show I saw, they basically did a jam session for 10 minutes before "We Looked Like Giants." It was incredible.
Also, for PlaceofDis: you're in luck! (http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/0400408792942A8A?artistid=718349&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=60)

Am I a bad person for not really liking anything pre-Transatlantacism? :(
I am looking forward to Narrow Stairs though. I like the extended, dreamy sound of "I Will Possess Your Heart."

No, I tend to favor Transatlanticism and Plans as well. But I do listen to their older stuff a lot just to see how they evolved. It's not BAD, of course...I just really like the two most recent albums.

Their cover of Björk's "All Is Full of Love" on the Stability EP is ****ing ace though. :D

TRUE!! And I also really like The Photo Album, though definitely not as much as Transatlanticism or Plans.

The only Death Cab album I'm not fanatic about is "You Can Play These Songs With Chords". Loved everything else, seen Gibbard solo in concert (incredible, he played some Postal Service and did a few covers in addition to a bunch of DCFC songs), can't wait for the new album. I love the lyrics to "I Will Possess Your Heart". It's great to see that, unlike many bands in our day, Death Cab's music only seems to be gaining quality with each new release.
And I'll second the 'All Is Full Of Love' cover being amazing.

i'm so psyched for the new album!!!!! but i will admit that i'm not overly fond of "I Will Possess Your Heart" quite yet...it's going to take a few listens for me, i think. i'm hoping the new stuff is as good as or better then the old!!!!
i, too, love their earlier work but i really feel like they got it right starting with Transatlanticism. for me, their lyrics are so visceral, and beautiful and...i could go on. :)
and i'll third the "All is Full of Love" cover being amazing.....because it is. ;)

I wasn't crazy about "I Will Possess Your Heart" at first either...honestly I didn't even think there were any words to it on my first listen, so I was just sort of thinking, "Well this is nice albeit a bit boring". But after listening to the latter half of the song a few times I really fell in love. Ben's lyrics always manage to connect to me sooner or later. That's what really draws me to DCFC and The Postal Service.

I think the lyrics of "I Will Possess Your Heart" are on the same level as those of "Transatlanticism," which is a pretty high honor in my opinion ;)

Count me in, I'm completely PSYCHED about the album. I saw Ben Gibbard live in Seattle last year, and it was amazing. He puts on an incredible show, with a lot of interaction with the crowd, and makes it a really entertaining evening. He could just come out and play without saying a word and it would still be great.
I just heard "I Will Possess Your Heart" for the first time after seeing it mentioned in this thread. I was a bit bored by it until the lyrics starts... now, after listening to it several times, all I can say is that it has only increased my anxiety. :D
BTW, I listened to it at their MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/deathcabforcutie).

I as well cannot wait until Narrow Stairs comes out. I bought tickets to see them play the Mann Center in Philly in June and will buy the album as soon as it's released :D

You think the lyrics are transatlanticism level? I wasn't impressed.
Then again, maybe I need to hear it in the context of the album. I tend to listen to albums as whole units, instead of individual songs.
I'm worried about liking Narrow Stairs. Transatlanticism was by far my favorite album, followed by the photo album, followed by plans. I get the vibe that narrow stars is very creatively far from transatlanticism... from the two songs I've heard. Not good.
Either way, I love death cab. I've seen them once... and I've seen Ben Gibbard acoustic... and I'm seeing them again in June. Should be awesome.
With that said, bring on narrow stairs...
