icon plug-ins for photoshop or illustrator?

today my boss asked me if i could make some icons for the software he's developing. i said "probably", but i don't really know since i've never done it before.

are there any good plug-ins for photoshop or illustrator for making icons?

Make the icon, export it as a PNG or whatever,
then open Icon Composer, Apple gives you this as part of their developer tools.
