These gift certificates are a good idea, but Napster does have a smarter plan with the gift cards you can buy at retail store. Apple should copy this.

I must say this is a route that Apple needs to go inevitably. Retail sales get "in your face" and will help the online effort to no end.
As for me, I've received 1 so far. Works flawlessly. And to that person that sent it, many thanks ;)

I have both sent and received a gift certificate.
But that's just because I'm a moron, and I accidentally sent one to myself. I was testing out whether or not I could use my .mac gift certificate on this, and in my sleep-deprived absent-mindedness I clicked all the way through the purchase process!!
Oh well, it's always nice to get presents from myself. I always knew I loved me...

I voted no, that seems to be pretty overwhelming at >89%. This is the first time that I have heard about the iTunes Gift Certificates. It would be a consideration fof a Christmas gift.

i agree with other posts, that apple needs to make these available in retail locations. especially for the holidays!

... for his Birthday. It was my idea of a Trojan horse. He, previously, had not used iTunes so now he was "forced" to install it! He now, of course, loves it. I also think that it is awesome that you can now purchase gift certificates at the Apple online store.

Its my sisters birthday today, I thought it would be nice to buy her a itunes gift certificate for her birthday, she is into that sort of thing.
However I was unable to do so. I tried going through the itunes store, and all it tried to do is force me to download itunes? I am at work right now, I do not want itunes on my work computer, the IT guys might take that the wrong way...
I tried to order a prepaid card, same ********, trying to make me download itunes. I don't understand... *I* do not want the gift for myself, the whole point of a GIFT is to give it to someone else.
I tried going to store support, and the other support pages, but they want me to login, using my AOL or Apple ID, which I do not have nor want, but couldn't sign up for anyway as I tried to find out how. They also had alternate links to purchace gift certificates and cards... all of which were broken links. Thats horrible on a so called legitimate web store.
This all happend on the Canadian iTunes site as orginally I went to the USA site, which worked flawlessly, the only problem is that it is the USA site and I cannot use it due to it not accepting shipping from there and the address fields being different. I think I am also supposed to use the Canadian site as ithe Gift is going to Canada.
So why am I going through all this grief to give Apple money? Particulary when it is quite apparent that they care very little outside of the USA. I even wanted to leave a comment on the Canadian site that they should look at their links and fix their process, but I cannot even do that. Maybe one of you nice Mac people (I was Windows, now Linux), can forward this text along as a complaint they might act upon.
Its really silly they way they have things set up. They have driven my buisness away, and have ticked me off enough that I will not try it again. Way to go Apple, you sure know how to do buisness. I certainly won't be trying iTunes myself as if they cannot handle a simple transaction as described above how can they possibly handle more complex processess such as providing me with music.
Anyway thats what I think of their Gift Certificates...
oh and just in case anyone was thinking of flaming me for being an inept apple user or something, I have used all the major OS's, have been using computers for decades, have a CS degree, have a large online existance, and work in the industry, so it certainly is not me that is root of the problem.

I have thought about sending one, but never have and have never received one either. I wouldn't mind getting one (if you want to send me one PM me and I'll give you my info  ) but to date I have had no use for one really. With holidays coming up, especially those stupid hallmark-holidays, an iTunes Gift Certificate might be just perfect.

Since my original post, can change to a yes. My wife has purchased several iTunes gift certificates, $20. She sent via the web to the receiver.

What is the difference between the gift certs you buy online and the gift cards you buy at a store? I have received the latter as a gift, but I have neither bought nor received the former. I don't have that many friends who buy music online -- grad students  -- they either steal it using Limewire type services or buy CDs. What can you do? :o

Does a pre-paid card count? If so, then yes.

You two are aware that they've had the cards in retail for at least a year, right? I believe they have them in $15 and $30 values.
And to the poll, yes, I have used iTunes Gift Certificates.
