macbook cracks, and warranty claims

i was looking around the edges of my computer earlier today today and saw the notorious cracks 😱. i assumed i would have at least 10 months before these developed, and seeing how they are not that bad right now i would like to be proactive and replace the top section (hand rest area). i was wondering if apple recognizes this as a design flaw and will fix it graciously, or if it is hard to convince them. i have not been to the genius bar for anything this serious before, thank goodness.
