Am thinking about moving to a more minimalist look. I've always liked the docks with three or four letter abbreviations for applications. I wouldn't mind seeing yours, and if you could post what font you're using, that would be fantastic.

That's REALLY cool. How do you go about making the icons text instead of normal icons?

It's not too hard, all you have to do is find icons in the form of letters, then select each individual program, and in the info box select the icon and copy the new one over it. Then you're all set. :)

Original Kobhens set (http://anmacaday.blogspot.com/2007/09/kobhens.html) + My Addon Icons (http://www.origindh.com/mac/KobhensIcons.zip) + Adium Set (http://www.origindh.com/mac/Kobhens.AdiumIcon.zip)

The link that says "my addon" I assume you did those? if so why is it that the stacks icons do not have transparent backgrounds like the other icons?
I am trying to use them on my 2d dock and I am having a pretty bad time of it.

Weird... here's a shot of how I see them installed (the same icons as bundled in my link above)

As far as why the transparent backgrounds don't show, it's a puzzle. Do older versions of Mac have trouble with that? I really don't know...

oh. how are you making it so that that icon shows all the time for the stack?

On my system I just told it to always show the folder icon and then i switched the folder icon.

You'll need Drawers for that... http://lifehacker.com/software/mac-os-x-leopard/overlay-drawers-onto-your-docks-stacks-322170.php. Then simply change the icon of the drawer as you would any other icon, and restart the dock...

hmm I still don't really want to use the icons like that I would rather just change the folders icon and have it stay one way.
I don't care to see random little images behind the icon showing what is in that folder.

Melrose

The benefit of having Drawers is that they icons automatically re-touch so they're always on top, and thus the icon you always see in the Stacks bar. If you just change the icon alone, then it'll change when you add other files with a alphabetically-earlier name or more recent touch date (or however you've got them sorted)

I dont want to see the stuff behind it though I just want it to be the folder icon changed. lol.
I have done it already its just that the files that I am using from our friend above us. The problem with that is that the backgrounds have black in them instead of being transparent :(

I suppose they are just as productive as other icons?
I didn't know icons were productive?

If anything it's less productive because they all look the same and it takes longer to find what you're looking for.

Although I don't know what the dock is still around when you can just use spotlight.

It actually helps me... For some reason I end up searching more for something if it's a random icon.

Right click on the stack, and click "Display as Folder."

You could make the argument that texts are pictures, but I agree with you. For me It's easier to identify with color.

you didn't really read my posts did you?
I am saying I want buddies icons with a transparent background so that I can do exactly what you said (which is exactly what I am already doing).

Currently i get a black background I don't want.

Interesting... is it an icon file or a png?

Not really... considering it's only 4 letters, and way easier than trying to find a suitable icon that matches the rest of your set.

It's still more work than anybody else has to do...By anybody I mean the 'normal' people who just use the intended icon lol.

ey c'mon - this is about posting your ultra-cool text-style Dock; Let's not make it about arguing over whose is better.

I personally don't mind making a new icon for a new app; I download so freakin' few apps it's worth it maintain the look of my Dock...

ah well...

It looks pretty cool, but I think I would get to confused (even though I know where I each program by heart). They are too close to one another!

I remember mine based on position more than anything. When I used to have all the actual icons, if one got moved over by mistake I'd still end up clicking it's old spot... Guess it's down to Position vs Colour vs Totally Awesome Texty Coolness. :)

Excuse my ignorance but how did you make all the icons on the desktop dissapear? I was attempting that a couple nights ago, and all I accomplished was making them very small. :o

Go to the apple in the top left corner of the screen>dock>turn hiding on

I don't know how to hide the HD icon though

Go into Finder > Preferences, and simply tick the box for which items you want showing

Glad to upload it, but how do I open the image only. I no longer have the original icns file, just have it as my download folder icon. How can I cop it from there and paste the image down somewhere to host it?
