Okay, now tell me that apple is not planning on releasing a PDA.

I think that this revival on the handwriting recognition lead us to think what would be Apple next step. Plus, bluetooth for the digital hub strategy!

Wouldnt be nice?:
iPod concept of design with a bigger screen
5-10 Gigs
Firewire to sync big files
Bluetooth for daily sync (contacts, appointments, instant messaging and web)
MP3 player, movie player
Palm OS or OSX pocket with Palm emmulator.

I guess that something like this will eventually come to reality, just don't wait for it... might take longer than we want.

Maye a little 6 inch screen, and a 5gb hd, with 1 firewire, 1 USB, 802.11 and bluetooth, ethernet port, and....touchscreen.

I like it, but doubt it....

it'll be interesting to see. it does seem more evident now. perhaps it will happen.

but i do think it'll take a little while. first jaguar has to be released, and then, the features need to be solidified and advertised, and then... bam. new pda. maybe

That sound pretty expensive
but I would like the ability to play QT movies
and maybe a bigger screen

full list should look something like this:

legacy-newton

1) firewire [high speed connection]
2) airport [wireless local networks]
3) Mac OS X [easily scalable unix core]
4) Classic [compatability layer]
5) ipod [small drive, bright lcd screen, LiPolymer battery]
6) ipod+contacts [pda functions]
7) remote desktop [remote terminal functions]
8) bluetooth [wireless low bandwidth peripherals]
9) inkwell [handwriting recognition]
10) rendezvous [advanced networking potencial, increased potencial for handheld terminal function]

soon... QT6 w/MPEG4

hell, apple's given us all the parts, we could build one now if we wanted.

I say the nex-gen newton should just be a tablet with all the everyday OS 10 features... nothing more... nothing less...

With a graphics card... that would be cool.. quake on an ipad...

The only problem with all this is battery life... people expect pda's to have weeks of life

I think Apple's strategy on Inkwell is to better support it's creative users. Graphics pro's live of their tablets, with this they (and dare I say I ;)) can aviod the keyboard almost all together.

But I could be wrong, who knows?

I don't really see why they'd bother making Inkwell a big thing unless they were going to show us some way to USE IT well... They need something big for MWNY in addition to the G5

I consider Inkwell in it's current form (from what Apple tells us anyway) to be a big thing. This is simply my personal opinion.

Be sure not to get your hopes up too high on a PDA, while it's plausible it isn't very likey for MWNY. Apple could of released Inkwell for graphics people and even the handycapped for only the purpose that it is usable now.

My opinon, PDA's are a ways off. If ever.
