I just put Vista on my MacBook today -- via bootcamp. It works great...fantastic, wonderful.

Here's the dumb question. Can I open files that reside on the Mac side of my partition -- pdfs, spreadsheets, etc?

That's it.

You'll need a filesystem driver for Windows to recognize the "Mac" side of your Boot Camp configuration as it can't read HFS+ by default. MacDrive (http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/) can do this for you. :)

Not as it is, one way of doing it is using a program called Macdrive.

Beat me to it!!

Well...look at that. Not such a dumb question after all it would seem.

That program looks like the perfect solution -- I only wish that it was shareware -- $50 is a lot for what it does.

Anyone know of shareware that might do the same thing?

Think you mean freeware??

Freeware would be great. But isn't it called shareware when the cost is minimal -- $20 dollarish?

I just spent $250 on Vista...it's killing me to spend another $50.

I may have to bite the bullet.

I have the same problem on the macbook pro as it is dual boot with vista. I did think about getting Macdrive as well but decided to see how I would get on without it. Found out that yes it would probably be handy but I dont really need it. You can always just use a stick to carry across files as you need them. Maybe worth a try unless you know that you desperately need that particular functionality.

I was thinking the same thing. I just downloaded the free trial of MacDrive and I will use it to get everything that is there today. Going forward I think I'll just use a memory stick to move stuff over. I can't justify $50 for this small bit of functionality.

I will say again that some smart guy should create a freeware program that can perform this trick.

Cheers,

MacDrive is very slick -- was able to just drag and drop everything into the documents folder in Vista -- wham bam thank you Mam!

Still...$60 is too much. I will not spend that money, I will not spend that money, I will not.........................

Create a small FAT32 partition that each would be able to access.

Well that is brilliant! It would also be much more economical -- disc space wise.

How do you do it? Disk Utility?
