Lets say I have some avis (Divx and 3ivx) that have some extra stuff I dont want (like the cast at the end) and I want to remove some parts... wich app should I use?

And if I just need to split one of those avis that just wont fit in a CD (like splitting a 1,2 Gb file in two 600Mb)?

thanks

Sam

iMovie, maybe?

import .avi, split in the middle, export as .avi? (can't remember if it's possible...)

I have a great program called 'Virtual Dub' for that very purpose, but I don't think it is avaliable for mac.

I use DVD Ripper to copy DVD's to my computer, Flask MPEG+Div-X 5.1 to incode them, and Virtual Dub to chop them up so they fit on CD's.

QuickTime won't handle DivX? It does on my system. Do you have DivX installed properly?

Try www.download.com and have a search for those kinds of programs.

is there an app for this? You don't need DivX doctor with DivX 5.07 (or is it 5.06?) or later. But if you are creating content, wouldn't it be better to use standard MPEG-4 rather than a bastard variation like DivX?

http://download.divx.com/divx/mac/DivX51Installer.sit

Then use iMovie or QT Pro, but imo QT Pro works the best.

I didnt know there was a Divx codec for QT because i've been using VLC for a long time.

I'll give the DivxInstaller link below a try...

Thanks! ;)

Yeah now QT handles Divx but when I cut the last 10 sec of the movie and I want to save it back it only offers .mov file. So I have to export it back, so its a couple of hours wasted. What about an app that would just cut the file and then save it like that?

I know that when my downloads are not finished, I can still watch the first part of the movies, so why wouldnt an app just cut or split a file without having to re-encode it all?

Don't know, maybe you could create an app to do so?

Theres an idea, or you could port virtual dub over to OS-X.

Use the application Split Me, which is a native OSX app.

You can find it here:
http://objectifmac.free.fr

To run the app you will need to have Mencoder installed. You also need to select in Split Me in which subfolder Mencoder is.

Mencoder can be found here:
http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net/

It still takes time to split the avi into two files, but I don't think there's anyway around this for now.

Not trying to be rude or anything, but what's wrong with a .mov file? It's still using the DivX codec, it's just in a .mov container instead of an .avi container.
