changing file paths in itunes. bulk.

Hello fellow mac'ers. I have a problem with itunes. I have pulled my library over from my PC and I now have the library on my mac, but I have all the little ! by each song saying that there isnt a song in the file path where itunes thinks it should be.

I know I can get around this by clicking the song and selecting where it is, but you can only seem to do this for one song at a time, and for over 2000 songs this could get a little time consuming.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Funny... I logged on to find an answer to the exact same problem! Mine involved an external HD crash, but the resulting problem is the same!
 
you can edit the "itunes music library.xml" file and do a find/replace for the path then import the xml file.
 
Go to your music tab in iTunes > Delete everything from iTunes, NOT FROM YOUR COMPUTER > Quit iTunes > Start iTunes > Locate all the music files > Drag and drop the folder which containts the files into the music tab of iTunes.

TheSpecialist...that will certainly work...BUT...if he has static Playlists, he will have to re-create all of them! SmartPlaylists will still be ok.

I would just open the XML file in a text editor and do a search/replace for the new path.

That's what I did when I moved to a new pc.

Thanks for the help.

I wound up opening the file as you suggested, and seeing the original path. Seems I'd buried the iTunes folder a couple of layers deeper than I remembered. I created new folders and recreated the original path, and now it's working like a champ.

I am so grateful for the hints and suggestions. Without them, I'd still be clicking one by one.
