itunes os x auto sync

Just switched to OS X from Vista. In Vista when iphone was plugged in, automatically synced. In OS X I must open itunes first. Is this normal?

i guess ituneshelper isnt opening

open system preferences, then accounts, then login items

keep that window open, and open finder. go to applications, and go down to itunes, right click and select show package contents

in there, there is an 'ituneshelper' app, drag that to login items
should be fine
