Leopard's "Image Capture" will support teathered shooting with many cameras. Try it.

with this model aperture is shoddy, it will take one pic and close the lens and you can only control it from apertuer, not the camera. hence another solution is necessary

Try installing the Canon software (Remote Capture DC) that came with your camera. It supports tethered shooting including live preview.

Page 32 of the software users guide manual that came with the camera.

If you didn't buy the camera yet and are just researching, yes canon does provide the software and this camera does do remote shooting.

Big difference between Nikon camera control and Canon's camera control is Canon's is free, Nikon's cost extra.
