story:
Congressional negotiators have reached a tentative agreement on a $400 billion plan to help Medicare recipients pay for prescription drugs, senators involved in the negotiations said Wednesday.
which senators?
Sen. John Breaux of Louisiana, one of only two Democrats involved in the negotiations. The other Democrat, Sen. Max Baucus of Montana
-> republican senators
and how does the normally regressive GOP feel about this issue?
Other controversial provisions include efforts to control the cost of Medicare and a "means test" that would force wealthy seniors to pay more for Medicare.
so the GOP senators are proposing a plan that, according to their world-view, raises taxes for the wealthy.
i made a point in another thread that looking solely at income tax cuts tells only part of the story; one must examine the ramifications and what other costs will go up.
here we have a case in point.
