New macbook and new video camera, JVC w/built in hard drive.
I tried using the software that came with it on my PC and it worked well for my basic editing needs, but for the life of me cannot figure out how to convert to files for sending, so...onto the new macbook...Is it super simple with the mac software to simply dump onto the mac, some basic editing, and then convert to files I can send to my pals? Any guidelines, etc?

Look at this site:
http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/#view

I assume you'd be using iMovie (which comes free with every Mac), or do you have a different application in mind?

See also the section called "To create a finished movie for use with iWeb, iDVD, GarageBand, and other applications" in the iMovie manual (page 44):
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iMovie_08_Getting_Started.pdf

Regardless of the software, what you would do is create a QuickTime movie file that you can then share with your friends. Unless you want iMovie to upload your videos directly to YouTube or your website.
