**the new trackpad that can Zoom, Edit, Crop onMBP's- software or hardware?

hey guys. most of you know the new macbook pro's have the new track pad. ie. the same type the iphone/itouch has. it can zoom in and zoom out. edit, crop etc.

is this hardware or software?
and if software. does anyone know where i can get script from?
