My MacBook Pro 15" has a defective Dual Layer DVD burner,
and i want to get it fixed.

I went into a Local MAC Dealer in Brooklyn, Mikey's HookUp,
they are an authorized MAC dealer and Repair Shop....

I do think they have qualified technicians there, but is there any
reason for me to take it to the Apple Store or should i just give it
to Mikey's HookUp, the Authorized Mac Repair Place,'
or i could also take it to Tekserve.....?

I just replaced my DVD burner in my MBP.. There are lots of bad ones out there. If those guys have the right replacement drives, there is no reason they couldn't do it. Make sure to test out your latch, drive, keyboard, touchpad, before you leave the shop. If they aren't too far away, it wouldn't hurt to find out what Apple would charge for it.

They would probably have to send it out if you take it to the Apple Store. When I had to get something fixed on my MBP, I took it to the Apple Store and was out of a laptop for 2 weeks.

Oh Wow, i think my local Mac Repair Shop can do it in House !!

they should be able to do it on site. i just got my MBP's superdrive swapped under warranty in the sendai (japan) apple store. i had to wait 3 or 4 days for them to get the part. then i dropped it off and they had it ready the next evening. great service.

fab5freddy, i was living in manhattan last year and remember i asked about what they could do in house. the person i spoke to said that they can do everything, no need to send it out. now this was the 5th ave flagship store so i don't know if that applies to every apple store. however, the manhattan stores i'm sure do a lot more business than the small sendai store here so i don't know if you'd get the next day turn around i did. i guess just give em' a ring or drop by and ask. make sure you backup your data before dropping it off too.
